Serving Christ While Serving Cupcakes…
February 25, 2013
A guest post by Lori Knapton of Tutu Sweet.
Three years ago, I began my cake and cupcake business, “Tutu Sweet”. We specialize in gourmet cupcakes and custom cakes. God grew my business and, about a year ago, gave me a desire to make it a ministry. The decision to turn TuTu Sweet into a ministry stemmed from a desire that God placed in my heart to be obedient to Him and to build my life around things with eternal value. At the time that God invited me to serve Him in this way, my husband had just been laid off from his job and the cake business was our only income. I heard it said recently that God doesn’t ask us to do things for Him when it’s convenient for us. If it was easy and convenient, then it wouldn’t be walking by faith. This surely rang true for us! We went from little income to no income. I mention this not to bring honor to us, but to be a testimony of a truly faithful and loving God. He has continually shown us provision for all of our needs. We have wanted for nothing. I would be lying if I said that there are not times that we worry, but God “knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust” (Psalm 103:14), and has increased our faith through watching Him provide for our every need.

2 Corinthians 9:8-11 says “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. As it is written, He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.” I am so thankful to our heavenly Father for allowing us this opportunity to serve Him!
When we first began making the switch from business to ministry, it wasn’t difficult to see that God had directed our path to lead us to partner with Living Bread Ministries. We already had a relationship with founders Patrick and Bárbara Hubbard and had been able to witness how God was working through them to grow LBM. Through talking with founder Patrick Hubbard, we thought it fitting that proceeds from our bakery go towards the food kits that Living Bread’s church plants provide for the poor families and widows. These kits are given out as a supplement to their monthly groceries, so that they will not be malnourished or forced to turn to immoral or unsanitary ways of finding food. Since we began this partnership, God has continued to exceed my expectations. In addition to the personal orders that we do and the orders for pound cakes and cookies that we ship to out of town customers, God has provided two local coffee shops to sell our products. I am excited to see where He takes our ministry and, Lord willing, what He invites us to be a part of next! “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen.” Romans 11:36.
